چکیده
Comparison of Quality of Life in Diabetics Using Insulin Injection Therapy versus Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion Therapy The goal of this study was to determine the effectiveness of insulin delivered via multiple injections or by infusion via a pump on the quality of life in adult insulin-dependent diabetics. Four parameters, namely hemoglobin A1C (3 month average blood sugar levels), self-reported healthy eating habits demonstrated by consumption of 3 meals/3 snacks everyday, frequency of exercise of daily 30 min or longer duration and opinion of quality of life, were evaluated in patients receiving either insulin injections or infusion. Pump users reported enhanced eating and exercise behaviors and feeling in good health, compared with patients receiving injections. In contrast, hemoglobin A1C was lower (6.9 + 0.9 %) in patients receiving insulin injections compared with those receiving infusions (7.9 + 0.6 %). Pump wearers perceived that they had a better quality of life, but their glycemic control was not necessarily improved compared to those on insulin injections.

The efficacy of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) of the rapid-acting insulin analogue, insulin aspart, was evaluated in 26 patients with childhood-onset type 1 diabetes aged between 6 and 18 yr who had been on basal-bolus therapy (multiple daily injection (MDI) of regular human insulin or rapid-acting insulin and intermediate/long-acting insulin). The glycemic control in the pati...

متن کاملComparing Effects of Continuous Insulin Infusion with or without Subcutaneous Glargine Insulin on Glycemic Control in Diabetic Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)
OBJECTIVE: Hyperglycemia is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients following coronary artery bypass grafting. Tight glycemic control in perioperative period can reduce these events. The goal of this study was to determine whether combination of continuous infusion and subcutaneous glargine as a basal insulin could improve glycemic control. MATERIAL AND METHODS:...

Background and Objective: Acceptable control of blood glucose is one of the most important goals of treatment management in diabetic children. An insulin therapy regimen with multiple daily injection or continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion has been admitted as a desirable therapeutic approach in children with diabetes mellitus type 1. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of intens...
